Frequently asked questions
Useful answers before the first workshop.
A practical view of our work, the way we collaborate and what to expect from a Gridline engagement.
Have a question not covered here? We are happy to discuss it directly.
Is Gridline Operations a fit for our organisation?
We work with manufacturers, distributors, carriers, warehouse operators and multi-site supply-chain teams where operational workflows span people, systems and locations. The best fit is a team willing to involve operational users, agree a measurable problem and make decisions in focused increments.
How long does discovery take?
A focused operational discovery is usually planned over one to three weeks, depending on site access, process variation and the systems in scope. We agree the schedule with your team and provide a prioritised opportunity map, key assumptions, risks and a delivery recommendation.
Which systems can you integrate with?
We commonly work across ERP, WMS, TMS, scanners, carrier platforms, spreadsheets and legacy databases. Feasibility depends on available interfaces, data quality, ownership and the operating constraints. We assess these early rather than assuming every connection is straightforward.
Who owns the data and software?
Ownership, permitted use, licence rights and any third-party components are documented in the relevant engagement agreement. We do not assume ownership of your operational data. You remain responsible for the source systems and permissions you control.
How do you approach security?
We apply proportionate engineering practices such as least-privilege access, documented data flows, secure secret handling and review of dependencies. Specific controls, responsibilities and evidence are discussed for each engagement. We do not claim certifications or guarantee that risk can be eliminated.
Can you work with legacy systems?
Yes. We often design a practical integration or modernisation step around a legacy platform rather than replacing it immediately. Where interfaces are brittle or undocumented, we map risks, validate access and agree a safe transition plan before production changes.
How do you roll out to multiple sites?
We normally validate workflows with a representative site and group of users first. A rollout plan then accounts for local process differences, training, operational calendars, data readiness and support. We avoid treating a single-site pilot as proof that every location is identical.
What support is available after launch?
Support tiers, service hours, target response expectations and escalation routes are agreed during onboarding and documented for active clients. Critical incident channels are agreed with active clients during onboarding; we do not publish an emergency number.
Can analytics work with inconsistent event data?
Usually, but the effort depends on what is captured and how consistently events are recorded. We profile data, identify definitions and gaps, and create a transparent model that distinguishes observed facts from assumptions. We will say when the data is not ready to support a measure.
Do you work with international teams and different time zones?
Yes. We support distributed teams across regions and plan workshops, delivery checkpoints and support coverage around agreed working hours. Language, local operating practices, data residency needs and regional regulations are considered with your team.
Will you replace our current platform?
Not by default. We work alongside internal teams and connect or extend existing systems where that is the sensible path. If replacement is appropriate, we make the case with evidence and treat migration as an explicit option—not a prerequisite.
What should we bring to a first conversation?
Bring a process that is taking too long, a recent exception example, or a measure you do not trust. You do not need a polished brief. Avoid sending credentials or sensitive personal information through the enquiry form.
